Welcome, Deep Wealth Nation! Brace yourself for an eye-opening exploration of living an extraordinary life. The host of The Deep Wealth Podcast and post-exit entrepreneur, Jeffrey Feldberg, does a deep with the motivational speaker and coach, David Bush. Through his powerful coaching and motivational speaking, David empowers entrepreneurial leaders to design and live exceptional lives.
In our discussion, David shared profound insights on how ordinary people can achieve extraordinary lives by stepping out of their comfort zones. His passion for developing exceptional leaders and high-performance teams has made him a sought-after coach across the nation.
The Path to Extraordinary
David’s journey of inspiration began with his dream of playing professional football, which didn’t turn out as planned. He went from high school football to securing a scholarship, and even made it to the arena football scene. Despite not reaching the highest levels of professional football, David realized, “the biggest lesson was about what it meant to live an extraordinary life.”
He emphasized:
“Extraordinary is defined as going above and beyond what’s usual, regular, and customary. It doesn’t mean you have to be exceptional to start. You just have to be an ordinary person willing to do extraordinary things.”
David’s story is a testament to persistence. He transformed his setbacks into stepping stones by pushing his potential beyond ordinary limits. He wants others to understand that they too can live extraordinary lives by stepping out of their comfort zones, taking calculated risks, and working both hard and smart.
David Bush believes that living an extraordinary life means going above and beyond what’s usual, regular, and customary. He quotes, “You don’t have to be extraordinary to start; you just have to be an ordinary person willing to do extraordinary things.”
Living an extraordinary life doesn’t mean having extraordinary wealth, privilege, or power. It’s about taking calculated risks, working hard and smart, continuing to innovate, and adapting to change. In David’s words, “To live an extraordinary life, you don’t need to be extraordinary to start. You can be an ordinary person who does above and beyond what’s usual and customary.”
Six Commitments to an Extraordinary Life
David explains his philosophy in his book, “Live an Extraordinary Life: Six Commitments to Live Your Dreams and Change Your World.” These commitments serve as a roadmap to personal fulfillment and success.
Commitment 1: Live Your Calling
David points out that many are influenced by social, family, or peer pressures when making life decisions. He reflects on his own experiences:
“I wish I had this book back in the day. I wasn’t following my calling. I enrolled in pre-med to become rich but failed my way through it because it wasn’t my passion.”
David advises listening to what truly inspires you and aligning your actions with those inspirations. By identifying what breaks or mends your heart and finding what brings you energy and joy, you can uncover your calling.
Commitment 2: Embrace the Coach and the Team
Like in sports, having a coach and a supportive team is crucial in business and personal growth. David highlights the importance of learning from others:
“In athletics, there’s always a coach. You need someone to point out your blind spots and guide you toward your potential.”
The journey is often easier and more effective with a mentor and a supportive community. This can help you see new perspectives and pursue success with added clarity and focus.
Commitment 3: Agree to Do Hard Things
David believes in tackling challenges head-on:
“When someone says ‘that’s hard,’ I say ‘I do hard things.’ Embrace what’s hard because often, on the other side of those challenges, is growth.”
David’s message is clear: If you want extraordinary results, you must embrace and persist through difficult tasks. Hard work is often a prerequisite to true success.
Commitment 4: Decide to Fail Forward
Rather than fear failure, David advises viewing it as a vital part of success:
“Failure isn’t the opposite of success; it’s a bridge to success. Embrace failure as a learning opportunity and a stepping stone towards your goals.”
Every setback offers a lesson and guides you on how to move forward with more wisdom and resilience.
Commitment 5: Expand Your Perspective
Shifting your mindset can transform your reality. David shares an exercise to illustrate this:
“If you see ‘opportunity is nowhere,’ shift your perspective. Insert a space between ‘W’ and ‘H,’ and it reads ‘opportunity is now here.'”
By adopting a growth mindset and staying open to new ideas, you can see possibilities where previously there seemed to be none.
Commitment 6: Resolve to Achieve Your Goals
Finally, David stresses the importance of unwavering dedication:
“Resolve means eliminating all other options. Decide that you will achieve your goals no matter what.”
Align your actions with your goals and persist until they are met. That kind of resolve transforms dreams into reality.
The Importance of Coaching and Teamwork
David shares how his background in sports taught him many valuable lessons. In athletics, there’s always a coach. “I don’t know of any athlete that doesn’t have somebody they learn from,” David says. This coaching perspective applies to the business world too. Having someone to speak to your blind spots and awaken your potential is crucial.
Another lesson from sports is the importance of teamwork. “One team, one dream,” says David. “Teamwork makes the dream work.” He believes that success often comes from a group of people working together toward a common goal.
David identifies four common struggles people face: motivation, mindset, skill sets, and action. Many people fail because they focus on how to do something rather than why they want to do it. “Motivation is a contraction between the word motive and the word action,” David explains. “Combining action with a motive makes you more motivated.”
Mindset is another critical factor. David highlights Carol Dweck’s book “Mindset,” which contrasts growth and fixed mindsets. He tells us, “A person with a growing mindset looks at their circumstances and sees opportunity. They don’t say ‘opportunity is nowhere’ but ‘opportunity is now here.'”
David emphasizes the importance of failing forward. “I’ve always thought of failure as the opposite of success. But failure is a bridge to success,” he says. Learning from failures allows you to grow and reach your goals.
Jeffrey Feldberg adds his own experience about learning from failure: “When everything is going right, it’s easy. But not everyone can keep going when things get tough,” says Jeffrey. He learned valuable strategies from other business owners who had failed, which helped him create a successful system for business exits.
David encourages everyone to embrace doing hard things. “If something is hard, you’re probably on the right track,” he says. Whether it’s building a business or maintaining personal relationships, hard work is essential.
Setting and achieving goals requires resolve. David advises eliminating other options and focusing solely on your goals. “Nothing can stop a made-up mind,” he states. Resolving to achieve your goals helps you organize your life around what matters most.

David’s insights challenge us to rethink our approach to life and success. They ask us to align our actions with our passions, embrace challenges, learn from failures, broaden our perspectives, and stay resolute in our goals.
